Pilot Notes:
General: The AH-1X is a large 1:4 scale RC helicopter. It is powerful for its size, capable of stable and composed forward flight at high speeds, an envelope that many RC helicopters of this class struggle to maintain cleanly.
It is equipped with skids with a relatively narrow base, which makes landing challenging and requires a precise, near-zero side-drift touchdown attitude to avoid a roll-over.
Set with moderately low gyro assistance, the AH-1X requires a high workload during hovering and low-and-slow flying, allowing the natural helicopter dynamics to remain clearly exposed. As speed increases, however, it demonstrates highly stable and composed dynamics, making high-speed forward flight highly predictable, precise and rewarding.
In the air: It is agile, predictable, and powerful. The combination of its large scale, relatively low gyro assistance, and narrow landing gear makes it a demanding helicopter during low-speed operations, while becoming increasingly stable as it transitions into forward flight.
Controls: Full control throws recommended throughout the flight. Dual rates may be considered for high-speed flying.
