VSKYLABS RC F-86X Sabre

TURBINE - 1:3.6 SCALE - CHALLENGING - REQUIRES DUAL-RATES/EXPO CONTROL MODES
 HIGHLY MANEUVERABLE - AGGRESSIVE STALLS - NON-FORGIVING

Model data:

Type: Giant-Scale RC Model based on the F-86 Sabre
Scale: ~1:3.6
Length: 3.25 m ( 10.66 feet)
Wingspan: 3.1 m (10.17 feet)
Weight: No-fuel: 72 lbs / 32.6 Kg
Fuel: ~4.5 Liter / 8 lbs
Engine: JetCat P300 Class turbine (67 lbs / 30.4 kg per engine)
Fuel consumption: 980 ml/min / 15.6 gallon per hour (full power)
Performance/Limitations:
Maximum speed: 150 knots / 173 mph / 278 km/h (sea level, full power, straight and level). Vne: 160 knots / 184 mph / 296 km/h. Note: despite the large airframe, the F-86 is a fast and responsive model. Control inputs at high speed must remain measured.

Channels:

  1. Throttle
  2. Rudder
  3. Elevator
  4. Ailerons
  5. Control modes (Full, Dual-Rates/Expo) - Mandatory for realistic flying.
  6. Flaps
  7. Gears
  8. Speed brakes

Pilot Notes:

General: The F-86X is a challenging model with high pitch sensitivity. It performs beautifully within its envelope and very responsive, yet unpredictable. It rewards scale flying, but it punishes when exceeding the flight envelope's extremes. The model has a dynamic temperament which requires advanced/expert piloting skills.

High AOA at any speed leads to aggressive and unpredictable spirals or stalls. Be especially cautious during high-speed passes and pull-ups. The transition from controlled flight to departure can be sudden. At low altitude, a slow speed stall is non-recoverable. There is no room for correction below the margin.

Energy management: Requires constant awareness. The base leg turn is where this aircraft catches pilots off guard as speed bleeds faster than expected in the turn, and an unrecoverable stall follows quickly. The speedbrakes are large and effective. Monitor your power setting and speed carefully whenever the speedbrakes are out. Do not pull up aggressively in high-speed passes - the model will respond to your inputs without hesitation and will hit its maximum structural limits.

Controls: Engage dual rates and/or expo immediately after takeoff and keep them engaged throughout the flight. This is not an aircraft to fly in full control mode unless its a designated test-flight.
