3D AEROBATICS - HIGHLY MANEUVERABLE - TECHNICAL FLYING
Model data:
Type: Giant-Scale RC Model based on the J-10 Aircraft Scale: 1:4.5 Length: 3.65 m ( 11.97 feet) Wingspan: 2.17 m (7.12 feet) Weight: No-fuel: 44 lbs / 20 Kg Fuel: ~5.7 Liter / 10 lbs Engine: JetCat P300 Class turbine (67 lbs / 30.4 kg) Fuel consumption: ~980 ml/min / 15.6 gallon per hour (full power) Performance/Limitations:Maximum speed: 140 knots / 161 mph / 259 km/h (sea level, full power, straight and level). Vne: 160 knots / 184 mph / 296 km/h. Note: the J-10 is a 3D performer first and foremost. The thrust vectoring nozzle, large canard, and delta wing geometry prioritize extreme low-speed high AOA maneuverability. High-speed flight must be conducted with dual rates engaged (thrust vectoring is automatically disabled in dual rates mode).
Channels:
Throttle
Rudder
Elevator
Ailerons
Control modes (Full, Dual-Rates/Expo) - Mandatory for realistic flying.
Flaps
Gears
Pilot Notes:
General: The J-10X is a large scale experimental model built for high alpha and 3D aerobatics. It is not a scale flying demonstration aircraft by nature, yet can be flown in comfort with the controls set to Dual-Rates, which disables thrust-vectoring. The low weight combined with a high power-to-weight ratio makes it overpowered and light on the controls. Do not expect the usual 'scale feel' of scale jets. The model is designed for 'technical' flight.
Thrust vectoring: The 3D thrust vectoring nozzle is coupled with control inputs and disabled in Dual-Mode.
Scale and non-3d takeoff must be flown with Dual-Rates engaged. When taking off with full control mode, treat pitch with care as the combination of high power and thrust vectoring pitch input produces an immediate and responsive nose-up attitude. Be measured on the throttle during the takeoff roll when performing with the thrust vectoring enabled!
The J-10X is capable of transitioning from straight and level flight to tail-sitting hover. The transition is initiated by slowing down while maintaining altitude, then, while in full-control mode, progressively (yet aggressively) increasing AOA at high or full power until the aircraft departs to the vertical attitude. Once in tail-hover, be aware that roll authority is not available - yaw and pitch inputs are your only control axes in this regime.
Unlike lighter and smaller 3D J-10 RC models, the VSKYLABS RC J-10X is not highly overpowered in tail-hovering mode. During tail-hovering, do not allow significant sink rate at low altitude.
Controls: Engage dual rates and/or expo for scale flying demonstrations. Use full control mode In 3D and high alpha operations.
